Eat. @ Airstream Cafe

Century City Walk, 285 - 287 Springvale Rd, Glen Waverley ph : (03) 9545 1800

The last time we had come to eat at Airstream Cafe was before the kiddies came along.  It was kind of a last minute decision to eat here as the place we initially wanted to go to was packed.  Airstream Cafe is your generic, large scale cafe with a big range of options in both food and drinks, as opposed to the trendy little bespoke cafes that Melbourne is famous for.  You can view their menu here.

Large selection of cakes on display.
Good for dessert after a movie at Century City Walk!

We ordered a paella and a woodfire pizza to share.  The woodfire pizza is quite well done, with lamb, onions and lots of tzatziki.  Although I DO prefer the Mediterranean lamb pizza at CRUST pizza, the woodfire pizza base was very nice.

The paella was good sized and very filling.  It is not as spicy or fragrant as I'd like, but was still pleasant enough.  Not quite an authentic spanish paella, more like an Aussie version!

There's quite a lot of seafood in this paella.

The kids each had a "kids set" consisting of a drink, a main and a large bowl of ice-cream with their choice of flavour and topping.  Again these are generously sized and not bad for $10 each.

Kid's Milkshake

Spaghetti Bolognaise

Ham and Pineapple Pizza.  Very nice for a kid's pizza!

I splurged and had a "mocktail", haha, which was interestingly named "Streaming Funk".  It looked and tasted like a fruit smoothie.

We had dinner there and the place was pretty darkly lit.  I'm sure it's done like that to "set the mood", but probably not a romantic mood as it's really, really loud in there.  The advantage I guess is that you can have very rowdy kids, and no one is going to complain because of the loud background noise.  Beware though, as loud noise combined with semi-dark lighting can set some children off!

Yes, that's Rebecca Black on MTV.

The restaurant was pretty busy.  The staff were ultra busy and run off their feet.  At least they managed to find us a table which we can park the pram next to.

Eat.Play.Shop. Recommends : coming here if you are looking for a place to eat with loud kids.
Give it a Miss : if you're looking for a true cafe experience.  This is kind of like the chain-store version of a cafe. (think TGIF but a bit more commercialised still)
