Eat. @ Nitro Lab

Shop T2a Kingsway, Glen Waverley 3150 (03) 9590 6039

We had a family friend who lived a stone throw's away from the Glen Waverley train station when I was growing up, back when the place I used to get my ice-creams was ...... at the local milk bar, because there was no other choice!  Nitro Lab has recently opened up in the tall apartment building just outside of the station and we wandered over there for dessert after we feasted on our favourite Korean Fried Chicken over at Meega.

Nitro Lab, as its name suggests, is one of the liquid nitrogen gelato made-to-order dessert bars, offering 6 different flavours of ice-cream a month, as well as waffles and milkshakes on its menu.  The prices are $7.5 for "a little bit" and $8.5 for " a bit more". The cups don't look big but I always find that the ice-cream goes a long way!  We ordered 2 "a bit mores" and comfortably shared it between 2 adults and 3 kids.

The first was a vanilla pannacotta was a safe but most delicious flavour.  The ice-cream was smooth as expected and the sauce and crumbly bits on top.

The Mango and Coconut is always a cool tropical combo and this was topped with mango pearls and coconut.  Quite refreshing and my only gripe was that I would have loved a stronger mango flavour in the gelato.

Limited seating is available inside and also in front of the store.  A nice refereshing dessert and it was certainly a hit with our kids!  Can't wait to try next months' flavours.

Eat. @ Meega Korean Restaurant

259 Springvale Rd, Glen Waverley  3150 ph 0413 154 168 (aka Chickilia)

Now that Bubs is a bit bigger, we have been more adventurous with our food destinations and our latest phase has been exploring Korean Cuisine.  Now, eating at Meega is indeed an adventure, as this little place is tucked up behind a Korean Grocery Store.  It's so well concealed it's like going into a secret bat cave that only those in the know could find.  You can access the little restaurant via a narrow corridor hidden at the back of the shop, or via the "back" entrance via a laneway behind the shops.  Either way you will find a little place with about seating for about 20, serviced by 2 very hard working home cooks, and get to eat some really yummy Korean food.

The Beef Bulgolgi is a must for us in Korean restaurants, and the serving here is good sized, tasty and excellent with a bowl of rice.

But to be honest, we are always here for the Korean Fried Chicken.   We ordered the 1kg serve (it sounds like a lot but it's so yummy it didn't feel like it!) with half soy & garlic and half sweet chilli.  The soy & garlic seasoning was really tasty and more-ish, and the sweet chilli sauce is not too spicy and quite older-kid-friendly.  You can also get spicier version which would go down nicely with a beer.   (Being a non-beer drinker I had mine with a coke.) We've also tried the spicy soy garlic and it's awesome, bit too spicy for the kids so more for me!

All up the meal with rice comes to ~ $50.  A pretty cheap and tasty meal for a family of 5!  I would recommend making a booking as the shop is quite small but popular to those in the know.  Ordering the chicken via the phone ahead of time is also a good idea as they're made fresh to order and take about 20 mintues.  The phone kept ringing and people had to be turned away whilst we were there.  This is Mini Me's favourite place to eat right now, and if you follow me on instagram you'll know we've here quite a bit lately!
